Chinese Levels
The teaching system for the Online Classes at BLCU is divided up into 8 levels. These can be seen in the chart below:
Level 1 – Breakthrough Chinese – HSK 1
A student will be able to read, write Chinese Pinyin, understand structure of Chinese characters. Will be able to use the easiest words and sentenses in daily life and studies and other communicative activities, like saying hello, goodbye, expressing gratitude and making an apology, briefly introducing him/herself etc.

Level 2 – Basic Chinese – HSK 2
Will be able to understand and use common expressions and sentences, to introduce him/herself and other people, and will be able to ask questions, for example, “Where do you live”, “Who do you know”, “What do you have“, “What do you do”, and also will be able to answer those questions. If the partner speaks slowly, in clear way and is ready to cooperate, the student will be able to make a simple dialogue.

Level 3 – Preliminary Chinese – HSK 3
Will know common expressions and words related to him/herself and his/her personal experience, for example, will be able to simply talk about him/herself and family situation, shopping, the surrounding area, work etc. Will be able to make a simple and direct dialogue on familiar or common topics. Will be able to use simple words to describe his/her educational experience, the surrounding area, and talk about his/her needs.

Level 4 – Fluent Chinese – HSK 4
Will be able to understand other people’s speech (if they speak clear and standard Chinese) about familiar things that happened at work, school or in daily life. Will know to handle most of the things he/she come across during his/her travel in China. Will be able to give simple and logic opinions on topics he/she is interested in or is familiar with. Also will be able to describe a dream, an event or one’s experience; and talk about own expectations and goals, and simply explain own opinions and plans.

For spoken Chinese class: “Short-term Spoken Chinese” Basic
Level 5 – Intermediate Chinese – HSK 4+
Will be able to understand basic content of a complicated article with a specific or abstract theme, the student’s major field and technical discussions included. Will be able to talk to native Chinese speakers freely and fluently. Will be able to discuss a wide range of topics in a clear and detailed way and to give his/her opinions on current events and state pros and cons of every different possibility.

For spoken Chinese class:
“Short-term Spoken Chinese” Intermediate
Level 6 – High Intermediate Chinese – HSK 5
Will be able to understand basic content of a complicated article with a specific or abstract theme, the student’s major field and technical discussions included. Will be able to talk to native Chinese speakers freely and fluently. Will be able to discuss a wide range of topics in a clear and detailed way and to give his/her opinions on current events and state pros and cons of every different possibility. “Short-term Spoken Chinese” Intermediate
Level 7 – Proficient Chinese – HSK 6
Will be able to understand long and complex articles of different fields and understand the hidden meaning of articles; will be able to communicate smoothly, freely, will be making sentences and remembering words with almost no effort. Will be able to use Chinese effectively in sphere of science, work and society. Will have and ability to express him/herself clearly, in a logic way.

“Road to success” Intermediate
For spoken Chinese class:
“Short-term Spoken Chinese” Advanced
Level 8 – Chinese Mastery – HSK 6+
Will be able to easily understand almost everything he/she reads or hears; to give brief account of every spoken or formal speech without leaving out some content or argument. Will be able to express him/herself smoothly, freely, and accurately. Will know slight differences of meanings of complex subjects.
